Happy New Year!

The new year is almost upon us, to me (Mary Kay), a unique time, because people are looking back and forward at the same time (not like Regan in The Exorcist, but in a more reflective way). One sign that the year is ending is all the lists -- the top 10, 20, 50, 100 (you name it) whatevers (again, you name it: songs, celebrities gone wild, photos, news stories and so on). Please note that the number of the top stuff usually ends in "0" or occasionally "5," but never an odd number like 17 or 53 and not banal stuff like toads, as in "The Top 81 Toads of 2006."

But I digress. Lists are basically good, especially your own personal lists, because they help you get your arms around what's really important to you and help you plan for the upcoming year. Which brings me to the looking forward part of this period. Most people resolve to do something in the new year -- lose weight, quit smoking, exercise more, etc. And the vast majority of them have broken their resolutions by... who knows? January 15 or so?

I suggest blending the two traditions. When you're making your personal top whatever list, why not just resolve to continue the good stuff? Here at Get It In Writing, 2006 was a fabulous year! Our list includes, first of all, our wonderful clients, both old and new. Thanks! You're great and make us strive to be better every day. Our other list, which just coincidentally numbers 10, is our 10 new divisions:
  1. Clearly Powerful Copywriting
  2. Blog Ghostwriter
  3. e-Press Kits
  4. Website Content Audits
  5. Your Article Library
  6. Proofing for Printers
  7. Employee/Team Recognition Tools
  8. Project Management
  9. Seminars & Workshops and
  10. Pro Bono Division

We hereby resolve to continue doing the good stuff in 2007, and hope you'll join us in some way ... just check out our new divisions.

One final thing. New Year's Eve ... not my favorite holiday, at least not to be about and about, but a good time to stay in with friends and family and reflect on the past year. If you are out and about, please take care ... you're very important to us. And on New Year's Day or the few days following, remember to ask people not, "Did you have a good new year?" (which always makes me want to say, "I'll let you know in 365 days," but instead -- "Did you have a good past year?" Hopefully, like us here at GIIW, their answer will be, "The Best!"
